National Book Centre of Greece EKEBI

The National Book Centre of Greece (NBC, in Greek: E.KE.BI.) is a non-for-profit legal entity founded by the Greek Ministry for Culture in 1994. Its aim is the design and implementation of a national policy for the promotion of books and reading. Publishers, writers, translators, librarians and booksellers participate to the decision-making and work together closely to achieve NBC’s objectives. Through their representation to the Administrative Board, they achieve an essential and active role in the Centre’s policy and actions. NBC’s main sources of finance come mainly from the Greek Ministry of Culture.

NBC monitors and documents the current developments in the field of books and provides systematic support to the main players in the book chain. At the same time, it focuses its attention on readership, aiming to serve its needs and broaden the base. NBC is active in the promotion of books and reading in Greece (activities at schools, theme events, events featuring great writers and foreign literature, book fairs, readers’ prize, new authors festival, books and cinema etc) and the promotion of Greek books abroad.
